Congress is considering a bill to ban the federal funding of abortions. The
No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would make permanent and expand the Hyde
amendment restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortions. It seeks to prohibit even
indirect funding streams that may potentially come in contact with abortion services.
"The tens of thousands of young people here today bravely defending the youngest people
in America know that the killings in Philadelphia--and all abortion--is violence against women and children. They know that the only thing the multibillion abortion industry produces is victims and that women deserve better than abortion. They know that the pro-life movement loves, honors, deeply respects and welcomes post-abortive women who are silent no more...As many of you know, the evidence suggests that when public funding is unavailable, the number of abortions drop dramatically, by about 25 percent."
"This latest anti-abortion measure presented by Republicans redefines rape, essentially stating that unless the victim physically fought her attacker, the act was not rape—not even if the woman was unconscious, drugged, or mentally incapable of consenting. If passed, it would deny federally-assisted abortion coverage to these women, and undo decades of progress we’ve made when it comes to supporting victims of these atrocious crimes. Suggesting that it is okay to force a woman to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term because she didn’t fight back, because she was drugged or scared, is simply unacceptable. It’s absolutely inexcusable."
