In his upcoming budget proposal President Trump is requesting $8.6 billion for border barriers along the southern border. Democrats remain adamant that while they are willing to provide funding to bolster border security, however, they will not agree to funding for a wall or fence.
In Favor of Border Wall Funding
President Donald Trump:
“Border security is extremely important, and we have to take care of border security. When you look at what happened with the caravans, with the people, with a lot of — we shut it down; we had no choice. We shut it down. But it could be a lot easier if we had real border security. If you really want to find out how effective a wall is, just ask Israel — 99.9 percent effective. And our wall will be every bit as good as that, if not better.”
Against Border Wall Funding:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA):
“President Trump hurt millions of Americans and caused widespread chaos when he recklessly shut down the government to try to get his expensive and ineffective wall, which he promised would be paid for by Mexico...At a time when our country faces challenges about jobs for the future, this money would better be spent on rebuilding America, and on education and workforce development for jobs for the 21st Century.”
