Lower Energy Costs

Some Members of Congress are putting forward legislation that focuses on two main priorities: increasing the production and export of American energy and reducing the regulatory burdens that make it harder to build American infrastructure and grow our economy. 

In Favor:

Sponsors argue the measure will restore American energy independence by: 

  • Increasing domestic energy production 
  • Reforming the permitting process for all industries 
  • Reversing anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration 
  • Streamlining energy infrastructure and exports 
  • Boosting the production and processing of critical minerals 

“For over two years now, President Biden and Congressional Democrats have waged a war on American energy, and families and workers across the country are paying the price. Gas and utility costs have skyrocketed to record highs, with the average American paying over 40 percent more for their gas since President Biden took office. Voters sent Republicans to Congress to stop this radical anti-American energy agenda and to lower prices, and House Republicans listened. I am proud to announce that I will be introducing our the Lower Energy Costs Act, to cut red tape and increase energy production here at home to lower energy costs and stop our reliance on hostile foreign dictators for our energy and minerals. With the introduction of the Act, we will put a stop to the war on American energy, become energy independent again, and lower costs for families who are struggling."  -- House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA)

"Republicans are once again showing that they plan to prioritize the needs of big oil and gas companies over the needs of the American people," said Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-NJ)"It’s unfortunate because there are many Members on our side of the aisle who have voiced interest in durable, bipartisan solutions that would allow us to build more clean energy infrastructure to ensure we lead the world in the transition to a clean energy economy. This [legislation] demonstrates that’s not the approach this Republican majority is looking to take."
