Bills to Address the Border Crisis

WASHINGTON – On week one of the 119th congress, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Homeland Security — joined several colleagues in re-introducing legislation to protect American communities from the devastating impacts of the Biden-Harris administration’s open-border policies over the past four years.

“The Biden-Harris administration’s open border policies have wreaked havoc on our communities — a fact no one knows better than Texans,” said Rep. McCaul. “Far too many Americans have died from fentanyl poisonings, violent crime committed by illegal aliens, and cartel activity. Americans deserve better, and that’s what they’re going to get with Republican leadership in the House, Senate, and White House. I’m proud to introduce these bills to help put a stop to the madness and finally put Americans’ safety first.”

McCaul joined colleagues in re-introducing:

  • The SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act, alongside Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), to strengthen federal law by requiring proof of American citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections;
  • The Laken Riley Act, alongside Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.), to require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain any illegal alien who has been charged with or convicted of burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting;
  • The Protecting Our Communities from Sexual Predators Act, alongside Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla.), to ensure any illegal alien convicted of sexual assault is immediately deportable and prohibited from re-entering the country; and
  • The No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Actalongside Rep. Nick LaLota (R-N.Y.), to prevent federal funds from being used to bail out sanctuary cities, including New York City, for a migrant crisis they and the Biden-Harris administration created.
