House Passes the STOP School Violence Act
Press Release:
"One of our highest priorities as legislators is to protect those who are vulnerable -- especially children. On Wednesday, the House passed the STOP School Violence Act by a vote of 407 to 10. This bipartisan bill takes a multi-faceted approach to the epidemic of school violence that has shocked the nation. The STOP School Violence Act empowers students, teachers, and law enforcement and trains them on how to recognize and respond to warning signs of violence. The bill also provides for the creation of an anonymous reporting system to provide tips about potential attacks and persons who may be inclined to commit acts of violence on campus. With increased training, technology, and coordination with law enforcement, we can be better prepared to defend students from violence and respond quickly and effectively to threats as they arise.
"No student should ever have to go to school in fear. I will continue to listen to students, teachers, and administrators to examine the issue of school safety and improve the classroom environment for our nation’s children. On Tuesday, March 20, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to further examine this issue.
