Hoyer, Aguilar Meet with DREAMer Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders

Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) and Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31) met with FWD.us, business leaders, and several entrepreneurs and professionals who are registered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  As a result of President Trump’s misguided decision to end the DACA program, the entrepreneurs and professionals with whom Whip Hoyer and Rep. Aguilar met are now living under the threat of deportation, loss of their livelihoods, and separation from their families if Congress does not take action.  Both Whip Hoyer and Rep. Aguilar are cosponsors of the DREAM Act and have signed a discharge petition to bring the bill to the House Floor for a vote.

“If our country deports 800,000 DREAMers, we will lose their talent, their vision, and their entrepreneurial grit,” said Whip Hoyer. “Many of these DREAMers are launching businesses, helping their companies grow and succeed, and creating jobs in their communities.  Congress must pass the DREAM Act before the end of the year and give these young people and their families peace of mind that they can stay here and continue contributing to the country they call home.” 
 
“Every day since the president decided to end the DACA program, Dreamers like the ones I met yesterday are forced to live in fear,” said Rep. Aguilar. “Congress must come together to pass the bipartisan Dream Act and allow these young people to continue their lives here in the only home they’ve ever known.”
