If President Trump Had His Way, This Email Would Cost You $100

Rep. Joseph Crowley: "The Republican-led Federal Communications Commission took its final steps to repeal the internet’s net neutrality protections.

These protections helped ensure that the internet was accessible to all Americans, not just the privileged few who could afford to pay more for faster or better service. Implemented under President Obama, net neutrality prevented internet service providers from blocking or slowing down content, which guarantees that we all have equal access to a free and open internet.

With the daily controversies coming out of the White House, it’s easy to overlook how the Trump administration is stripping away consumer protections from the American public, but the death of net neutrality is one of the most glaring examples of the president’s anti-consumer agenda.

The internet is one of the greatest inventions of our time – it has inspired endless innovation, connected communities across the globe, and opened doors for men and women from all backgrounds.

Now, it’s under attack.

Reinstating net neutrality protections is one of the top issues I hear about from my constituents, and for good reason. This impacts us all.

As yesterday’s start-ups become today’s success stories, we must make sure entrepreneurs and content creators always have room to innovate. This is especially important for our nation’s students - the next generation of American leaders.

Last month, I had the privilege of joining FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, a net neutrality champion, to speak with students at CUNY Prep High School in the Bronx about their hopes for the future of the internet.

The students I met with were deeply concerned about the dismantling of net neutrality protections, which is why I was proud to discuss my efforts to overturn the FCC’s misguided decision by advocating for enactment of the Congressional Review Act.

The Trump administration’s attack on American innovation will not stand, and I will continue fighting for policies that ensure the internet works for everyone, regardless of their economic status. Because the fight for net neutrality is bigger than any single issue, it’s about standing up for one of our nation’s core values: equality."

S.J.Res.52 - Restoring Internet Freedom (Net Neutrality)

The Senate just passed S.J.Res.52 to roll back a Federal Communications Commission plan to fully dismantle the Obama-era net neutrality regulations. Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, or application.

Should Congress pass legislation to make Net Neutrality Law?

Net Neutrality

The FCC repealed its Obama-era net neutrality rules, a step critics warn will upend the internet by allowing cable companies to control where their customers can go online. The FCC claimed net neutrality led to the government “micromanaging the internet.”

Do you agree with the FCC's repeal of the net neutrality rules?
